The Complete Baccarat Roadmap Guide — Big Road, Big Eye Boy, Small Road & Cockroach Pig

1. Introduction — What Are Baccarat Roads?
If you have ever been to a casino, you have probably noticed the electronic displays next to baccarat tables showing colorful grids of red and blue circles. These are baccarat roads (also called scorecards or roadmaps).
Roads are visual records of past game results. They help players identify patterns and trends in the shoe. While baccarat is fundamentally a game of chance, experienced players use roads to make informed decisions about their next bet.
There are 4 standard roads used in every major casino worldwide:
- Big Road — The primary scorecard showing raw results
- Big Eye Boy — Derived road comparing pattern consistency (shift 1)
- Small Road — Derived road with deeper comparison (shift 2)
- Cockroach Pig — Derived road for maximum depth (shift 3)
By the end of this guide, you will understand how to read all four roads and use them to assess whether the shoe is streaky (one side dominating), choppy (alternating frequently), or mixed.
2. Big Road — The Foundation
The Big Road is the most important road. Every other road is derived from it. It is a grid (typically 6 rows tall) that records each hand result.
How It Works
- Red circle = Banker win
- Blue circle = Player win
- Green line/dot = Tie (marked on the previous result)
Reading Rules
- Start in the top-left cell of the grid.
- If the same side wins again, move down in the same column.
- If the other side wins, start a new column and place the circle in the top cell.
- If a column exceeds 6 rows, the circles extend horizontally to the right (called the Dragon Tail).
- Ties do not create new entries. Instead, a green mark is added to the last circle.
Example
Imagine this sequence: B, B, B, P, P, B, P, B, B, B, B
The Big Road would show:
- Column 1: 3 red circles (B, B, B)
- Column 2: 2 blue circles (P, P)
- Column 3: 1 red circle (B)
- Column 4: 1 blue circle (P)
- Column 5: 4 red circles (B, B, B, B)
This tells you the shoe has a mix of streaks, with Banker currently on a strong 4-win run.
3. Big Eye Boy — First Derived Road
The Big Eye Boy answers one question: "Is the shoe following a repetitive pattern?"
It compares the current column of the Big Road with the column one position before (shift = 1).
Color Meaning
- Red = The pattern is consistent (repeating). The current column behaves similarly to the previous one.
- Blue = The pattern is inconsistent (chaotic). The current column differs from the previous one.
How to Interpret
- Mostly Red = The shoe has a regular, predictable pattern. Streaks tend to repeat.
- Mostly Blue = The shoe is chaotic and unpredictable. Frequent switches.
- Mixed = No clear direction.
4. Small Road — Second Derived Road
The Small Road works exactly like the Big Eye Boy, but compares with the column two positions before (shift = 2).
This gives a deeper level of pattern analysis. While the Big Eye Boy detects immediate pattern repetition, the Small Road looks further back to see if patterns repeat over a longer cycle.
When to Use
If the Big Eye Boy shows mixed signals, the Small Road can sometimes reveal a clearer trend that is not visible on the surface. Think of it as a "second opinion" on the pattern.
5. Cockroach Pig — Third Derived Road
The Cockroach Pig (also called Cockroach Road) compares with the column three positions before (shift = 3).
This is the deepest level of derived analysis. It detects the most subtle patterns that the other two roads miss.
Visual Difference
Each derived road uses a different shape to help you distinguish them at a glance:
- Big Eye Boy = Hollow circles
- Small Road = Filled circles (smaller)
- Cockroach Pig = Diagonal lines (slashes)
6. Reading All 4 Roads Together
The real power of baccarat roads comes from reading all four together. Here is the framework used by experienced players:
3-Road Consensus Method
- All 3 derived roads are Red → Strong regularity. Current pattern (streak or alternation) is likely to continue.
- All 3 derived roads are Blue → High chaos. Expect frequent reversals. Consider smaller bets or sitting out.
- Mixed signals → No clear consensus. The shoe is in transition. Wait for a clearer signal before increasing bets.
7. Common Patterns to Watch For
Beyond the 4 roads, experienced players look for these specific patterns:
One side dominates for 4+ consecutive wins. Long columns in Big Road. Derived roads mostly Red.
Results alternate: P-B-P-B. Big Road shows many 1-2 circle columns. Derived roads mostly Blue.
Perfect alternation between Player and Banker. Every column is exactly 1 circle.
Results come in pairs: BB-PP-BB-PP. Every column is exactly 2 circles.
One side wins 6+ in a row. Column extends into Dragon Tail. Rare but dramatic.
Shoe changes from streaky to choppy (or vice versa). Watch for derived roads changing from Red to Blue.
