Homeward Bound! Flight is set for the afternoon, so no crazy wake up time. Leisurely breakfast, pack the last minute stuff, and go for our private transfer back to the airport. Of course there is the mandatory gate change! Even so, we load early and even take off early! Will wonders ever cease! Home by 8:30 PM, having picked up some take out dinner along the way, and then for the comfort of our own bed!
If you have read this far, thanks for sticking with me. WIX was giving me a lot of grief, to the point it would not allow me to post at all. So finished this up at home!
Last day in paradise! Being USA citizens returning from a forigen country, we needed to get a rapid antigen test with a negative result within 24 hours of flying. Most of the hotels in Mexico and the Caribbean provide these free of charge, and ours is no exception. Had to schedule it on the day we arrived, just to make sure we had a slot. Go get the test right after breakfast, and then off to the pool!
Speaking of the pool, it has two parts, the upper with a disappearing edge, and the lower part, where the edge wall is a waterfall. It looks like the whole wall is leaking (where’s that Dutch boy?), but really the stones are set staggered against each other. So as when water flows down the wall it hits edges all over and leaps out like a mini rapid. Really beautiful, with a swim up bar, and another bar on the dry side behind it.
Took some more pictures, but otherwise just was a pool bum with DH. Dinner at the Italian restaurant, some more after dinner drinks, and off to the room for the night. And a nice surprise in the room. DH has been working with one of their QA people while we were here, and this was his gift to us, as well as some really nice white chocolate.
A wonderful few days together, not enough as usual, but far better than being at home!
Wake up to another beautiful day for the sun. We grabbed some towels from the dive shop last evening - that’s how they get your attention for tours , nice ones, but we’ve done them all in one place or another,so I skipped the spiel. I’ll tell you though, if you’ve not done a catamaran sail/snorkeling tour, go for it whenever you can.
Again, a bum day at the pool. No adventures this trip, just a long weekend for DH to unwind. He so needs this. The years have taken a toll.
Lunch is at a buffet facing the beach, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Assorted salads, different types of fajitas, cold cuts and lots lots more. We tend to sit facing the beach, watching the beach crowd trickle up, and then the constant flow. You can hear the narrating naturalist in the documentary droning on in that almost whisper they share with golf announcers “as the sun passes noon, the litore Tornacense* emerge from their sand beds, and gather to feed…”
Buffet Building
Dinner at the sea food restaurant. Same place that holds the lunch buffet, but lit dramatically differently. I have not mentioned that the resort is “all inclusive”, so all drinks and a select number of wines are included in the price, as well as all meals. So lots more pre-dinner cocktails and after dinner dinner drinks than is the norm for us. Nice lobster dinner, again, some music and off to the room.
When the sun goes down, that roof terrace gets very dark, and nobody can see you, especially if those curtains are closed. So fill the jacuzzi, and soak in perfect privacy without worrying about voyeurs! A very nice way to relax and…NVM!
No, that’s not how I woke him, both of us are woken by the sun coming through the upstairs patio doors. Who knew to close those curtains? So a pleasant morning cuddle and….NVM!
Breakfast buffet, and a lazy pool day. The beach is beautiful, with a constant breeze. But staying away because, 1) the water is a bit rough, and 2) there have been a couple of incidents of some young “gentlemen” shooting up beach fronts from wave runners in other areas of Cancun. This has led to a US State Department issuing a caution for the entire Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Personally, I think some organized crime group is trying to extort the resort owners, a traditional illegal income source. The government has responded by deploying some 1,500 troops to the area.
Covid protocols in place, temperature check during check in, masks required indoors unless eating or drinking. No self serve at the buffet. Overall people are compliant.
There are a few Majestic properties in the area, this is Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres. There is a family side, and an adult side, we’re on the family side. Given the upgrade we have, I'm not complaining! Besides, the children are all pretty well behaved, and are having a blast with their parents.
Spend a pleasant afternoon at the poolside, and get ready for dinner. There’s a wedding being set up on the outdoor “Sky Lounge”, from the number of chairs, sizable for a destination wedding. We see the bride and groom heading for the beach for pictures.
As we get ready for dinner, the skies open up! Look out the window, and staff are scrambling to take in the chairs and all! We find out later the wedding party was rescued off the beach, and the ceremony completed under cover. But that poor bride, a dream wedding planned for a long time, and then rained out!
You can see where the wedding was set up from the view from our room picture above, and here is the close up. and a nice view of the beach area.
Dinner at the Argentine Steakhouse, then after dinner drinks listening to the entertainment in the main lobby, and off to our room. Woken up in the middle of the night, rain pounding against the windows and balcony doors. Seems that’s the pattern here, rain in the mid to late afternoon, and again in the wee hours.
The usual up at “oh dark thirty” to catch an eight AM flight. Bumpy ride, seat belt sign on more than not. But what a difference two years makes! Same as my other two flights in the past year, nobody is bitching about wearing masks, and beer and wine available, but it is an 8 AM flight! Watched Suicide Squad, which could be parody of something called Dirty Dozen Meets Godzilla and The Podpeople, complete with mad scientist! At least Margot Robby didn’t have to wear hot pants. And it was totally tongue in cheek.
Land on time, 12 thirtyish, and then treated to a tour of about 345 degrees of the perimeter of the terminal, about 30 minutes or so, only to be parked on the apron, boarding buses to the terminal. Cleared immigration and customs, and boarded our private transfer to the resort.
Check into our room, and surprise! Upgraded to the top level just below suites! And best of all, stairs up to a private sun deck, with a tanning bed and jacuzzi.
Views from our room
Off to a very late lunch, unpack, then down to the bar for a couple of cocktails.
Dinner at the French restaurant, getting squeezed in by a cooperative Maître de. After dinner, listen to the band for a bit, and off for the night.
After almost 22 months since my “Birthday in Barbados “, it’s DH’s turn! Through the benefits of Jet Blue points, and the graciousness of the Cancun
Majestic (he won four nights at the property over two years ago) we are finally getting away again for some sun fun! And boy does he deserve it. Almost two years of absolute disaster for travel consultants and the industry in general, has taken him from loving his work, to wondering what fresh hell he will wake up to each morning.
